Catholic Altar Candlesticks
Details
Made for the Altar. Unique relief images.
A pair of 19th century (likely) brass, French Catholic ecclesiastical candlesticks — built for ceremony. Painted white at some point.
These Gothic Revival candlesticks feature unusual narrative bas-relief medallions depicting scenes from the life of Christ, including Jesus carrying the Cross and the Madonna and Child. Unlike the more common saint portrait medallions found on many altar candlesticks, these display active biblical scenes in high relief.
